The Quarries

Since the'60s with the arrival of new mining technologies, work in the quarry is differenziò than in the laboratory which allowed the careful choice of raw materials and improvement of working and always entrusted to the skilled hands of local stonemasons.

Since 2004 the area beneath Prealpi Giulie and including the foothill towns of the province of Udine (Friuli Venezia Giulia) like Faedis, San Leonardo, San Pietro al Natisone and Torreano is recognized and well-established as the Piasentinas Stone district craft.

The characteristic quarry of Pietra Piasentina looks like an inform mass of boulders of various dimensions; the rocks are here variously interconnected and bound together by the presence of clay. A dozen quarries with good availability of homogeneous boulders are in the area. They are open-air and the quarries are exploited in full respect of the delicate environment.
