Informations about Pietra Piasentina
The History
According to a local belief, Pietra Piasentina derives its name from an expression from the local "udinese" dialect. The expression "piase" , meaning "to like" seems to recall "piacente" or "pleasant" referred to the stone.
There are art crafts dating back to Roman times, referring to the foundation of Forum Iulii, the current Cividale del Friuli, where Pietra Piasentina was used from the beginning for decorative purposes. During the Renaissance (16th century) it was used for monumental works and villas by Palladio (Venetian architect) to become the stone for construction and coating for excellence in Friuli.
Pietra Piasentina is still a widely appreciated material not only for its extraordinary nuances but also for its physical and mechanical properties.
