History and evolution of SAPPT:
In 1965 a group of nine stonemasons founded "Società artigiana Pietra Piasentina Torreano" (S.A.P.P.T.) in order to cope with and forward common investments and respond to increasingly numerous market demands. The mastery of the stonemasons derived from their labour in the nearby quarries and from their performances with tools such as drills, chisels, wedges, bats, levers, and foretti to carve the stone.
The plant was built in Ponte Nuovo while the extraction of the blocks of stones took place in an old quarry, in Vernasso. From then on, SAPPT has been able to implement new art crafts. SAPPT soon became well known and appreciated by the local market and gradually gained a national and an international mastery profile.
During the following years, the increasing market demand allowed SAPPT to search for new quarries (one of these is called Clastra) located in the municipalities of San Leonardo, Preoht in Faedis, and Noglaret in Torreano. SAPPT also developed a consequent expansion of three production plants: in 1978, in 1988 and in 1996 for an overall working area of 2,600 Sq.
In 2003, because of a lack of space and also for logistic reasons, additional land and a shed in the municipality of Moimacco were acquired for an area of 2,200 square meters for the laboratory, plus an additional outdoors area of more than 11,000 Sq.
Nowadays, in the factory-site of Torreano, they perform primary processing of cutting blocks from which they derive massive slabs of any size, but they also perform several finishes: polishing, sanding, flaming, bush-hammering, brushing, sawn-surfacing, flex-surfacing and natural slate. On the other hand, in the laboratory in Moimacco they perform various finishes through sophisticated CNC machines and they also forward the realization of any kind of design product which is currently greatly demanded by the market, one example is Pietra Piasentina marbles of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Even now extractions are still made from stone quarries in two different sites: from the quarry of Preoht, located in the municipality of Faedis, and from the one of Noglaret, in the municipality of Torreano.
Almost 30 employees work in quarries and laboratories.
